The Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, and the Minister of Justice, Minister Responsible for the French Language and Minister Responsible for the Montérégie Region, Simon Jolin-Barrette, have just announced that a project to modernize Hôpital Charles-Le Moyne has been given the green light to move to the planning phase. This is wonderful news! This project of over $400 million includes an expansion to accommodate:
- an operating theatre with 15 rooms
- an intensive care unit with 30 beds
- a brief hospitalization unit
- a brief intervention unit in mental health
In addition, your generosity will allow cancer patients to receive a more precise diagnosis and more effective treatment! Thanks to past donations of $1.2 million, the Hospital will be able to purchase and instal a positron emission tomography (PET) machine.
The PET machine resembles an X-ray scanner, with a large opening. It is used primarily in oncology to detect cancerous tumours and monitor their evolution. It can also be used in cardiology and neurology.
This means that some 2000 patients will benefit from this new technology each year, without having to travel to Montréal or Sherbrooke!
This announcement is another step towards the advancement of our donors’ vision—YOUR VISION—to improve access to quality healthcare that is safe and at the cutting edge of technology in the Montérégie.
