Close to $28M to offer the best healthcare in the Montérégie
Our major fundraising campaign, VITAL, is a wrap! This ambitious campaign has raised close to $28M since 2017.
The campaign owes its success to the community’s incredible show of generosity. A heartfelt thanks to all our donors and partners. Not to mention the volunteers in our campaign cabinet who led the way. Thanks to you, our Hospital can provide quality care that is safe and at the cutting edge of technology.
Thank you to everyone who took part in this vital movement to support health in the Montérégie. Without our donors’ unwavering support, our major projects would not get off the ground. Your support is crucial to offering the very best healthcare, close to home.
Your impact
This announcement is another step towards advancing YOUR vision. Improving access to healthcare for the Montérégie’s 1.5 million residents.
Here are the four priority projects that will transform the lives of thousands of patients thanks to the funds raised for critical areas like oncology, endoscopy, research and mental health.
Oncology – Purchase of a PET scanner
Your generosity will mean more precise diagnoses and better cancer treatments for our patients! Your donations will mean the purchase of a positron emission tomography scanner (PET scanner).
The PET scanner is a device that looks like an X-ray machine, with a large hole in the centre. It is used primarily in oncology to detect cancerous tumours and to monitor their evolution. It can also be used in cardiology and neurology.
Each year, some 2000 patients will benefit from this new technology, without having to travel to Montréal or Sherbrooke.
Endoscopy – Relocation and two more treatment rooms in the digestive and pulmonary endoscopy department
The funds raised will pay for more examination rooms in the endoscopy department. Your support means that more patients with colorectal cancer or other diseases will be diagnosed more quickly.
This is more important than ever because the pandemic has created a deficit of 100 000 colonoscopies. That means 5000 to 10 000 patients run the risk of a late cancer diagnosis. More screening rooms mean fewer patients left waiting—thanks to you!

Research – Creation of a research chair for the improvement of cancer patient care
Your donations created a Research Chair to improve the effectiveness of cancer patient care.
The purpose of this Chair is to develop, implement and evaluate innovative treatments for optimal outcomes. And above all, to help people with cancer and their families cope better during this difficult time.
Thank you for making scientific breakthroughs a reality so that cancer patients and their families can receive comprehensive and continuous care!

Mental health – Funding and deploying mental health programs
Your generosity helps thousands of people with mental illness. Your support is more important than ever. The current number of adults in the Montérégie with symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder or major depression is twice as high as before the pandemic. And the numbers are rising!
Your compassion is helping to ease the effects of the health crisis on the psychological health and lifestyle of our patients of all ages. Among other things, your donations support the Horizon 4 Saisons Project—an innovative approach that employs nature and adventure to treat youth between the ages of 13 and 18.

Portrait of a committed philanthropic entrepreneur
Benoit Lemieux and his wife, Geneviève Letendre
Benoit Lemieux’s connection to Fondation Hôpital Charles-LeMoyne is a story of family. He was born at Hôpital Charles-Le Moyne. So were his brothers and sisters, and his children. He grew up in Brossard. Hôpital Charles-Le Moyne is “his” hospital.
He was brought into the fold by his father, Serge Lemieux, founder of Groupe LSR—a family-run real estate company on Montréal’s South Shore—and a major philanthropist who has long been involved with our Foundation. And he has followed in his father’s philanthropic footsteps.
At the helm of the only university hospital foundation on the South Shore, and determined to adopt the highest standards for charitable organizations, he has had a major impact on improving the Foundation’s policies and governance.
Examples of his deep commitment include his role in the 2017–2020 strategic plan and his co-presidency of the cabinet for the major campaign in 2017.
As Chairman of the Foundation, he has been a driving force behind the unrivaled success of its flagship events. Under his governance, Québec’s hospital foundations were invited to join the Generations Challenge, an unprecedented province-wide solidarity movement in response to our hospitals’ most pressing needs! His initiative led to the resounding success of the Philanthropists’ Wine Cellar to support the mental health of our youth! And let’s not forget the Golf Classic, which became the 2012 Serge-Lemieux Golf Classic in memory of his father. This event has raised over $1,675,000 under Mr. Lemieux’s leadership. To say nothing of the generous donation he and his wife made to our major campaign!
