Dr. Éric Bergeron — So That the Next Generation Can Go Further

The Da Vinci Robot isn’t just a piece of equipment. It’s an investment in the development of our field.

With nearly 30 years of experience, Dr. Éric Bergeron could talk about the thousands of patients he has treated, the procedures he has performed, or the publications that have marked his career. Yet what drives him today is the next generation.

“People come and go. The institution, however, remains.”

Deeply attached to his Hospital, he sees it as a place where people are cared for, where they learn, and where knowledge is passed on. It is an environment that must continue to evolve to provide future generations with the means to achieve their ambitions.

He has witnessed the arrival of new technologies and new ways of performing surgery. He knows that today’s innovations will become tomorrow’s standards. For him, investing in development means, first and foremost, investing in people.

“Young people want to thrive in forward-looking environments. If we want to attract the best talent, we must give them the means to learn, innovate, and grow.”

In the past, he generously contributed to the purchase of an orthopedic robot. It is in this same spirit that he is once again supporting the Foundation. His donation is earmarked for the acquisition of the Da Vinci Robot, which will provide access to highly specialized care. This technology will transform clinical practice, particularly in urological, gynecological, and thoracic surgery.

“The Da Vinci Robot isn’t just a piece of equipment. It’s an investment in the development of our field.”

His entire career has been about driving projects forward, opening doors, and inspiring others to join him.

“When one project comes to fruition, it inspires you to take on another.”

Today, he wants to leave his mark by giving back to those who will come after him.

He himself benefited from an environment that allowed him to develop his practice. Now, he wants future generations of surgeons to have the same opportunities, perhaps even better ones.

He wants the young people coming up to be able to say: “Here, I can learn, grow, and achieve great things.”

His impact will not be measured solely by the surgeries he has performed. It will also be measured by the doors he has helped open. Because, deep down, the most beautiful gesture isn’t just giving. It’s making the future possible.

His philanthropic gesture is also tied to a deeply human story. Dr. Bergeron cared for the brother of his colleague, Dr. Maude Pichette, until the end of his life. After his passing, she chose to make a donation in his memory. This gesture touched Dr. Bergeron and inspired him, in turn, to give back by making a donation to the Fondation Hôpital Charles-LeMoyne.
