Antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest threats to global health. Thanks to your support, research at Hôpital Charles-Le Moyne will help better understand resistant bacteria and protect patients today and tomorrow.
Objective: $500,000!
When antibiotics no longer work
A simple ear infection. An antibiotic. Just like thousands of times before. But this time, it doesn’t work.
Some bacteria have become resistant to antibiotics. What could once be treated easily can now become a serious threat.
Today, antibiotic resistance already causes than 1.2 million deaths each year worldwide. If nothing changes, this number could reach 10 million per year by 2050.
This is what many experts now call a silent pandemic — one that progresses without warning and affects all areas of medicine.
By supporting research, you are helping better understand these bacteria and find solutions to protect patients and the entire community.
A recent call from 450-912-9131? That’s normal.
A phone fundraising campaign is currently underway to support the new pediatric day centre. If you received a call from 450-912-9131, rest assured: it is indeed an official initiative carried out with our trusted partner Monali.

When Julie Hébert’s father was hospitalized for heart surgery, everything seemed to be going well. The doctors were confident. So was his family. Then an infection appeared. As in most cases, an antibiotic was prescribed. A simple, routine treatment that usually works. But this time, it didn’t.
“We thought the infection would be treated quickly. But the antibiotic didn’t work.”
For Julie and her family, everything changed within hours. They discovered, like so many others, that some bacteria have become very difficult to treat. Today, Julie is choosing to turn this experience into action by supporting research on antibiotic resistance at Hôpital Charles-Le Moyne, helping advance knowledge and protect other families.
Dr. Louis-Patrick Haraoui is a medical microbiologist and infectious disease specialist at Hôpital Charles-Le Moyne. He is also a clinician-researcher committed to better understanding antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Antibiotic resistance is progressing rapidly. To protect patients and the entire community, we must better understand these bacteria and develop strategies to slow their spread.

Thanks to your support, he and his team will be able to dedicate more time and resources to studying these infections and developing solutions.
In the laboratories at Hôpital Charles-Le Moyne, researchers analyze bacteria, study how they evolve, and work to understand what makes them resistant to antibiotics.
