The heart surgery had been a success.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">An hour later, the Hospital called us back. My father was in respiratory distress. The doctors intubated him and placed him in a medically induced coma. Tests multiplied. His condition deteriorated rapidly. Nothing seemed to stop the infection.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The doctors eventually identified the bacteria. A bacterium resistant to antibiotics. His heart stopped a few moments later.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">My father, Denis H\u00e9bert, was a very active man. He loved tennis, cycling, and had even climbed Machu Picchu after the age of 70. And yet\u2026<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Some bacteria have become extremely difficult to treat. That day, we learned this the hardest way. My father died from it.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">My father strongly believed in giving back to the community. During his lifetime, he even created a foundation to support various causes, including healthcare.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Today, being involved with the Foundation and supporting Dr. Haraoui\u2019s research here at H\u00f4pital Charles-Le Moyne is a way to honour his legacy.
