On June 15, 2023, Dr. Katia Carle-Talbot, respirologist at H\u00f4pital Charles-Le Moyne, and the members of the clinical team, successfully performed the Hospital\u2019s first thoracoscopy.  <\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-68f2b56 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"68f2b56\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The procedure conducted with a thorascope, a specialized device acquired thanks to the generosity of donors, was performed in the new endoscopy rooms at H\u00f4pital Charles-Le Moyne, funded with support from Fondation H\u00f4pital Charles-LeMoyne.<\/p>\n<p>The CISSS de la Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie-Centre is the third facility in Qu\u00e9bec to use this technology to diagnose pleural diseases, in particular cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Also called medical thoracoscopy, this one-hour procedure uses a camera to view the pleura. Its main function is to perform pleural biopsies.<\/p>\n<p>The examination, which used to require a general anesthetic and a few days in hospital, now takes less than half a day. The procedure is performed by a multidisciplinary team comprised of a respirologist, nurses and respiratory technicians.<\/p>\n<p>The less invasive nature of the procedure has a number of benefits for patients, most notably few side effects and better recovery.
